Energy Recovery Units

Do I Need One?

To start lets ask ourselves, “How Does A Energy Recovery Unit Work?” The main objective of the unit is to Ventilate the building by removing unwanted odors, bacteria, humidity, and virtually all threatening particulate matter. The EPA states that toxic pollutant concentrations can be as much as 10 times higher inside your home than outside your home. With todays better insulated homes these numbers could potentially be even higher. Ventilation can be accomplished with a common roof vent, drafty doors, or even an open window, but if you just left your windows open all heat generated from your furnace in the winter and all heat removed from your A/C and the summer is lost. That’s were the Energy Recovery Unit (ERU) comes into play. While blowing all of the stale air out of your home or building, the ERU also will bring filtered fresh air from outside into the building. the filtered air prevents odors and bacteria from entering the building’s ductwork and in return keeping the building feeling cleaner and healthier. But the ERU doesn’t stop there. Inside the unit is a heat exchanger that transfers the buildings temperature to the fresh air entering the building. So in the middle of the winter when it is 65 degrees inside and 5 degrees outside, we certainly do not want to exhaust all of the heat from the building, while bringing in very cold outside air. The heat exchanger in the ERU allows the fresh air (5 degrees) to be heated up by the warm stale air (65 degrees) that is leaving the building. With this the fresh air will not cause your furnace to work so hard to maintain temperature. The ERU does the exact same thing but opposite in the summer, by helping to cool the hot fresh air before entering your home or building.

So now we can ask ourselves ” Do I Need An Energy Recovery Unit?” That’s up to you to decide, just remember the benefits and goals of the ERU

To Filter Fresh Air entering the building as needed, Without much Heat Loss or Gain at all. Saving your money, and giving you a healthy indoor environment
